American singer-songwriter, Taylor Swift, best known for her 2008 album Fearless has released the whole original song she wrote for the Where the Crawdads Sing soundtrack after suggesting that it will be released "soon" more than three months ago. Before it was officially released on Friday, Carolina steadily made its way to fans through a variety of movie trailers starring Daisy Edgar-Jones.

Swift's lyrics, which are based on nature, are representative of Jones' character Kya, who grows up alone in the North Carolina marshes after being abandoned by her parents and is then charged with murdering a young man whom she had a sexual relationship with.

After reading Delia Owens' debut novel Where the Crawdads Sing, which served as the inspiration for the movie, Swift wrote the song Carolina, which she originally revealed as her musical contribution to the movie in a March Instagram post. It read, “Where the Crawdads Sing is a book I got absolutely lost in when I read it years ago.” The pop star further wrote, “As soon as I heard there was a film in the works starring the incredible @daisyedgarjones and produced by the brilliant @reesewitherspoon, I knew I wanted to be a part of it from the musical side.”

Commenting on her work on the sound, the 32-year-old singer tweeted, “I wrote this one alone in the middle of the night and then  @AaronDessner and I meticulously worked on a sound that we felt would be authentic to the moment when this story takes place. I made a wish that one day you would hear it. ‘Carolina’ is out now.”

Soon the comments section flooded with fans thanking her for “creating another masterpiece". One of them wrote, “Thank you for making a song I can hold so close to my heart! I’m so happy your wish came true! Thank you for giving us Carolina! @taylorswift13 @aaron_dessner.”

“Taylor it is haunting and lonely and strong and it has already burrowed under my skin! I love it so much, thank you for this #Carolina,” read another reply, calling the song a definition of haunting.
