The film Thappad wins Filmfare awards for Best Background Score, Best Editing, Best Sound Design, Best Playback Singer (Male), and Best Story.

Thappad had been nominated in 17 categories in the Filmfare Awards and till now it has won 5 of those awards. The recipients for the awards are Mangesh Urmila Dhakde for the Best Background Score award, Yasha Ramchandani for the Best Editing award, Kaamod Kharade for the Best Sound Design award, Raghav Chaitanya for the Best Playback Singer (Male) award for the song “Ek Tukda Dhoop”, and Anubhav Sinha and Mrunmayee Lagoo Waikul for the Best Story award.

The drama film Thappad was directed and co-produced by Anubhav Sinha. The movie was released in theatres on February 28, 2020, and released on Amazon Prime on May 1, 2020. The film follows Pannu’s character and covers topics such as marital abuse and internalised misogyny. Thappad was praised for its social message, performances, and screenplay. After the film was released, the Rajasthan Police shared a poster of Thappad along with the helpline number to report domestic abuse.

Excluding the 17 nominations from the Filmfare Awards, the film Thappad was also nominated for three other awards. The Best Asian Film by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA), along with the awards for Best Film and Best Editing by the Asian Film Awards.

The actor Taapsee Pannu made her acting debut in the Telugu film Jhummandi Naadam in 2010. Her first role in a Hindi film was in the comedy Chashme Baddoor in 2013. Pannu’s performance in the 2016 movie Pink where she co-starred with Amitabh Bachan was praised and the film was a critical and commercial success. She also runs an event management company along with her sister and friend called The Wedding Factory.
