Who Is Sudha Kongara? Superstar Suriya Sivakumar on Monday announced that a Hindi version of his Tamil film Soorarai Pottru (Praise the brave) is in the works and Sudha Kongara Prasad, who helmed the original film will be directing the remake as well. Suriya took to his Twitter and made the announcement on July 12.
Suriya and Aparna Balamurali’s highly acclaimed film Soorarai Pottru traces the story of the life of Captain GR Gopinath, founder of the budget airline Air Deccan. Details on the cast and crew for the Bollywood remake are yet to be announced. Kongara is currently working on the script of the upcoming Hindi film with a set of writers. She said in a statement that she was instantly drawn to the story because of Captain Gopinath, who according to her, is an "adventurous maverick" and an "inspiring entrepreneur" who epitomised the New India of the 90s. She also hopes the remake also gets the same love as the original.

Paava Kadhaigal director Kongara is known for her unique storytelling style and concepts. This short film is themed on non-binary relationships, caste, class, the status of women in Tamil rural families. She grew up watching Mani Ratnam films and later worked under him for seven years as an assistant director. The talented director has now become one of the most celebrated directors in the Tamil film industry. She has given Tollywood many recent hits like Irudhi Suttru, Guru, Saala Khadoos and more.
The director became the talk of the town when she collaborated with R Madhavan for the Hindi-Tamil bilingual Saala Khadoos/Irudhi Suttru, which received rave reviews from critics. For the Hindi remake Saal Kadoos, Kongara was immensely praised and received a Filmfare Award for Best Director. She also directed its Telugu remake Guru.
Kongara's daughter Uttra reently got married to Vignesh in a private ceremony in a star hotel in Chennai recently in November. It was earlier reported that the director bosts of a net worth around $1 Million - $5 Million, as cited by Celebs Age Wiki.
Soorarai Pottru, which was released on OTT last year in November, is partially based on Simply Fly, the biography of Captain Gopinath and inspired by events from his life. Her film was among the ten Indian films to be screened under the Best Foreign Film category at the 78th Golden Globe Awards . It was also sent for screening at the 93rd Academy Awards. It made history by being the only Indian film to be ranked third highest rated film on IMDb with a 9.1 rating, only behind two iconic films such as Shawshank Redemption (1994) and The Godfather (1972). It was also dubbed in Kannada and Malayalam under the same title and in Telugu as Aakasam Nee Haddu Raa. The film was recently selected for Shanghai International Film Festival 2021.
