In what is a high-profile case unfolding in Mumbai, the accused's wife, Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty's statements defending her husband during police interrogation have sparked conversation on the internet. Hotshots, on which the illegal content was being platformed, came under Armsprime Media Private Limited – a company Kundra was formerly associated with. Kundra claimed to have sold Hotshots in 2019 to UK-based company Kenrin, but police suspect he was involved in operations from his India-based Viaan Industries office. Follow the case here.

Of late, OTT platforms and their content have been under constant scrutiny in India, with series and films routinely facing backlash on various grounds of outrage deeming certain themes or sequences "obscene." Last year in November, heads of OTT platforms like ALTBalaji and Ullu were booked after complaints against such content.
Issuing guidelines for digital content, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting meanwhile brought OTT under the ambit of central regulation. A controversial move, the centre's decision had been actively criticised by many for allegedly attacking free speech and expression through content.
In that view, social media users are debating where the line stands between erotica and porn, and whether a blurring of it might risk free speech with arbitrary demarcations of what is legal and what is illegal.
