At a ceremony on December 17 in Las Vegas, the Indian beauty Sargam Koushal, also a model from Jammu, was declared winner. She succeeds model-actor Aditi Govitrikar (2001) as the first Indian to win the title. Shaylyn Ford of the US, who was crowned Mrs. World 2021, was replaced by Koushal.

"I'm grateful to God for giving me the chance to act as a medium and a catalyst for change. It serves as a means of empowering nearby children and women. This fame comes with a lot of responsibility," Koushal told PTI in an interview.

The Mumbai-based model, who also works as a painter, content writer, and teacher, credited her father with inspiring her to begin modelling. "From the beginning, my father has never dismissed modelling or pageantry. He considered it to be beautiful. He would always say, "I want my daughter to do something of the sort, whenever he would see Sushmita Sen, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, or any other beauty queen."

Although Koushal's father thought she would have a successful career in modelling, she wasn't confident. Following her marriage to an Indian Navy officer in 2018, things improved. After hosting a social event for the service personnel and their families, she realised she was good in front of an audience.

It all "just happened," Koushal said, adding that she soon signed up for the beauty pageant, "with dad's persistence and my determination." She also wants her victory to be seen by Jammu residents as a shining example of the region's potential.

"The young people in Jammu have a lot of potential and can achieve much more if given the right opportunities," she continued. According to Koushal, she will soon travel to Jammu to meet her parents, other relatives, and friends. She would continue to pursue modelling in the future. "I like interacting with the camera. I'm not familiar with acting, but I want to pursue modelling," she said.
