According to netizens and the box office, Shaakuntalam is not living up to the standards that the cast, crew, and Samantha Ruth Prabhu had set for the film during all of the advertising leading up to the premiere. However, netizens are slamming a Telugu film producer for claiming that Prabhu's career is "finished". The actor played the starring role in the film, which was released on April 14.

The story of Shakuntala and King Dushyant is told in the film, which was directed by Gunasekhar and is taken from Kalidasa's play Abhijnanasakuntala. However, the film did poorly at the box office. The film, which reportedly cost 60 crore rupees to produce, has only grossed about 10 crore rupees at the box office so far as per reports.

The actor appears to have started working on her other projects already. She appears to have addressed the film's disappointing reception by quoting the Bhagavad Gita in an Instagram post, saying that she can only perform her duties and has no influence over the outcome.

The actor has now received comments from Chitti Babu, a Telugu film producer, who claims that Prabhu's career is "finished." She should accept any offers she receives going forward because the days of stardom are over, he claimed.

Chitti Babu claimed that the actor did the Oo Antava item song for Pushpa The Rise following her divorce for financial reasons. He added that the actor is taking whatever offers are given to her now that she is no longer a star after her divorce. Chittibabu claimed her role as the protagonist is over, and she is unable to regain her previous level of fame.

He asserted that her career as the protagonist was over and that she would never be able to achieve prominence again. Additionally, Chitti Babu criticised the actor for becoming emotional while promoting Shaakunatlam in cities like Kochi and Mumbai. He continued by mentioning how, when promoting Yashoda, she cried and sought to have a hit. He claimed she repeated the same act before Shaakuntalam in an effort to win sympathy by claiming she intended to do the role before passing away. He came to the conclusion that the actor's "cheap and insane" acts were ineffective every time.

Fans, however, harshly criticised his remarks in the comments section, labelling them "cheap and distasteful." The actor, however, will next collaborate on a Kushi-titled movie with Vijay Deverakonda. Due to her health concerns, the movie has been postponed for a long time. She will also show up in the Russo Brothers' Citadel's Indian version.
