While Amol Gupte directed Saina will have a theatrical release, Pagglait will premiere on Netflix. An OTT release was perhaps not what the makers of the film had planned, but owing to the pandemic many films are opting for online streaming platforms instead of theatres.

Here's looking at the two films releasing today:

Saina: This film is a biopic based on ace badminton player Saina Nehwal. The film covers all the major achievements and hardships of the player's life. As we look at her life unfold on screen, the former world No 1 Badminton player entered the quarterfinals in the Orleans Masters Badminton Tournament 2021 yesterday.

On how she prepped for this ambitious project, Chopra said in an interview, "Playing badminton was probably a secondary thing. I first had to get into the mind and physicality of being an athlete. We did a lot of training for agility, performance, strength, speed. You have to get serious skills to play an Olympian." Read more on that here.

Pagglait: Featuring an impressive cast including Sanya Malhotra, Sheeba Chaddha, Ashutosh Rana and Raghubir Yadav, Pagglait is the story of a young widow, who loses her husband just five months after her wedding. How this widow gains back her agency and independence forms the crux of the film.

Malhotra revealed in an interview that to play the role of Sandhya better, she took to writing a diary as her character. "So many of Sandhya’s dreams remained unfulfilled because she let someone else make decisions on her behalf. Now she has to take on reins of her life… You have to be emotionally mature to let go of your grudge and hatred towards someone to move on. That’s what she taught me," Malhotra said. The film will also mark the debut of television actor Shrutii Sharma in Hindi films.
