Five Things We Know About Robert Maraj, Rapper Nicki Minaj's Late Father

Rapper Nicki Minaj lost her father Robert Maraj to a tragic hit and run accident on February 13. As per reports, Maraj was walking on the road in Long Island's Mineola village, when he was hit by a vehicle. The indent happened on Friday evening. The 38-year-old rapper is yet to make an official statement on her father's demise.

Here are five things we know about Robert Maraj:

1. Robert Maraj died after being hit by a vehicle in Long Island, around 6 pm on Friday evening. The driver of the hit and run incident reportedly did not stop after the accident.

2. The 64-year-old  was taken to hospital for treatment, however, he was pronounced dead the next day.

3. Maraj was of Indo-Trinidadian descent and had a history of alcohol abuse, about which his rapper daughter spoke oftern.

4. In an interview with The Rolling Stone, Minaj had described her father as a drug addict who once set their house on fire, while her mother, Carol Maraj was still inside. "It’s the price you pay when you abuse drugs and alcohol," Nicki Minaj, who was born Onika Tanya Maraj, said about speaking up so openly about her abusive father. "Maybe one day your daughter will be famous and talk to every magazine about it, so think about that, dads out there who want to be crazy," she added.

5. In the 2018 documentary Queen, Minaj also spoke about the domestic abuse her mother endured at her father's hand. "I remember when my mother would let my father be violent with her and she always brings up this story about when I was a little girl and I would stand in front of my mother ."
