Padukone, who will be playing the role of Sita, was the first star to have signed the big project. Now, reports are doing rounds citing that the makers have approached Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu for the role.

Ramayana 3D: Budget and Casting

The much-hyped project is going big on the budget (Rs. 300 crore allocated) and casting. According to recent developments, the makers are looking for a personality who could bring innocence to the role of Lord Ram. It further says that the actor has already read the script, liked it, and is yet to give a nod to the project. “Madhu has offered the film to Mahesh Babu who also liked the script. Madhu feels he has the innocence to pull off Shri Ram’s character. Mahesh Babu, on the other hand, has liked the script but is yet to give his nod to the project,” a source told Bollywood Hungama.

Earlier, reports also suggested that Mantena wanted Prabhas for the role but he has already been approached to play a similar role in Om Raut’s Adipurush. “Madhu got the biggest shock when Om announced Adipurush with Prabhas. He immediately got his team and financiers to bankroll his Ramayana 3D and now, Hrithik has come on board as the villain. Deepika remains Sita and he wanted a big south face to play Lord Ram,” the same source was quoted as saying.

It was earlier reported that Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan is a part of the film as well. This is the first time that Padukone and Roshan will be seen sharing the screen space. They have reportedly signed two big projects together, expected to release by this year. Padukone and Roshan have already announced their next, Siddharth Anand's Fighter, as the lead actors. And, if reports are to be believed, they will also star in Ramayana, that too in 3D.

Ramayana 3D will be directed by Nitesh Tiwari who earlier helmed films like Dangal and Chhichhore.
