Rachel Brosnahan on Marvelous Mrs Maisel: Actor Rachel Brosnahan who is known for her lead role in The Marvelous Mrs Maisel shared that the role is 'the scariest thing' she has ever done.

She also said that she doesn't think of herself as a natural comedian.

Brosnahan is shooting for the fourth season of the show which portrays her as a single housewife, Midge, who embarks on the unchartered territory of stand-up comedy in the 1950s.

While talking to a magazine about the role she said, "It’s definitely the scariest thing I’ve ever done. It continues to get more terrifying as we go on".

Brosnahan shared that she has never done stand-up comedy in her life. In order to do justice to her character, she told herself that Midge, the protagonist, is not a stand-up comedian but just a funny lady having a breakdown. This made things easier for Brosnahan.

"I can act this mental breakdown with this great dialogue!" But as the show has gone on, Midge has had to become much more technically accomplished. She is a stand-up now and the audiences keep getting bigger, so I’m nervous all the time," she said.

She also said that now she has developed a "whole new respect for stand-up comedians" as she believes that she would "not fare well " as a stand-up comedian herself.

"Being a stand-up, you are putting your whole self on the line for a laugh. When it works, I imagine there is no greater high, but when it doesn’t... I would just want to crawl into a hole and die."

For her role as Midge, Brosnahan has won an Emmy Award and two Golden Globes back to back but she feels that she isn't taken seriously as her male counterparts.

"They can call out an elephant in the room or an issue in the workplace and they’re not labelled 'difficult' or 'bossy' in the same way that so many women I know have been, " she said.
