Decoupled starring R Madhavan and Surveen Chawla is a story of a couple stuck in a dysfunctional marriage for the sake of their daughter. The couple is not able to decide on the course their unstable marriage should take and the story seems to take many twists and turns through their journey.

The trailer had raised the hopes of the audience for the series but after it was released on December 17 the reactions were barely positive. The series has been the subject of debates on social media. Many users felt that the series mocks Muslims and promotes misogyny.

The story is about a Gurgaon-based couple who try to stay together for the sake of their eight-year-old daughter who is scared of their parent split.

The series has been written and directed by Hardik Mehta who worked for many important projects like Roohi, survival thriller Trapped, Paatal Lok among a few.

Decoupled has been created by Manu Joseph and is produced by Lootera’s director Vikramaditya Motwane and Bombay Fables.

The streaming platform describes the story as “A misanthropic writer and his startup-founder wife juggle their impending divorce with the absurdities and annoyances of life in their affluent world.”

7. Surveen Chawla who plays the role of a startup founder in the show is known for her performances in Sacred Games, Haq Se, Parched, Kahin To Hoga.

The official trailer for Decoupled has garnered more than 2.8 million views on YouTube. Fans were happy to see the two actors pair up for the first time. “So happy to see two underrated and very talented actors coming together after so long”, wrote one of the users.

R Madhavan and Surveen Chawla posted the trailer on their social media platform as well and Madhavan captioned it-“Hope you like listening to a separating couple talk about marriage👀👂🏼
Because @surveenchawla and I have a lot to say.”

A video clip from the series went viral on social media in which Madhavan’s character entered a prayer room at the airport and started doing stretching exercise while there was a man offering namaz in the room. On being asked not do exercise in the prayer room by the man and the airport authority, the male lead starts reciting Gayatri Mantra while stretching to annoy everyone.

The scene has been termed problematic by the social media users. It added to the on-going debate on offerings of namaz in public places. The show also drew flak from audience for its “failed satire” as it seemed that the show ended up promoting misogyny in the name of mocking the institution of marriage.
