Afshan Azad, aka Padma Patil From Harry Potter, Expecting First Child

Afshan Azad, better known in pop culture as Padma Patil, one of the two Indian sisters from the Harry Potter films, is pregnant. The actor is expecting her first child with husband Nabil Kazi, whom she married in 2018.

Sharing the news with her followers on social media, with a photo featuring her baby bump, Azad wrote, “The secrets out everyone – I’m going to be a mummy!!!”

As per Azad’s pregnancy announcement, the baby is due to arrive in July 2021. “Both our hearts are filled with love, excitement and nerves! Not long to go, please keep us all in your prayers,” Azad wrote.

Azad’s post saw many ‘Potterheads,’ who remember her as the pink and orange lehenga-clad Hogwarts student in the Goblet of Fire, exclaim and express excitement at news of her pregnancy.

In a follow-up post, the actor thanked netizens for their felicitations. “Thank you to everyone for their well wishes and kind words. Such a relief to tell you all the good news. Pregnancy is such a rollercoaster of emotions but I can now finally enjoy the remaining few weeks with my baby bump. Feeling all the love today. Thank you,” she wrote on Twitter.

Who Is Afshan Azad?

Afshan Azad is an England-born actor with Bangladeshi roots known predominantly for her role in the film adaptations of JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series. The series’ fifth installment, The Goblet of Fire, marked her first appearance on screen as Padma Patil. She was portrayed as one of the identical Patil twins, alongside Shefali Chowdhury who played Parvati.

The 32-year-old has previously claimed having strong friendships with other female actors on set, including Bonnie Wright who played Ginny Weasley and Evanna Lynch who played Luna Lovegood.

Following Goblet of Fire, Azad appeared in all remaining films of the series till the end.

She has an educational background in science and business. Azad reportedly hails from a conservative Muslim family. In 2010, it was reported her family (father and brother) threatened her with death for an interfaith relationship. Her brother was charged with “assault occasioning actual bodily harm” and was sentenced to prison for six months.
