The powers of Scarlet Witch have remained rather mysterious as compared to the other Marvel superheroes. With each new film, the fans are introduced to the surprising new abilities of Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff. Here’s what we know about the powers of the Scarlet Witch.

Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff has a pivotal role in the recently released Doctor Strange in the Madness of Multiverse along with titular characters Doctor Strange and Wong. With a tragic past, the Witch has had a rather melancholic life which fans have become very curious about ever since the film came out along with her mysterious superhuman powers. Here’s what we can tell you about the powers of the Scarlet Witch aka Wanda Maximoff.

Wanda Maximoff is a native Sokovian who grew up with her twin brother Pietro. The two were the survivors of Novi Grad Bombings which killed their parents and developed a hatred for Tony Stark. The siblings agreed to become test subjects for HYDRA and acquired superhuman abilities. In order to get vengeance for their parents’ death, the siblings teamed up with Ultron to destroy Tony Stark. However, upon realising its true intent, they changed sides and helped the Avengers take down the robo-enemy.

Pietro lost his life while fighting against Ultron which left Wanda devastated. She then decided to remain with the Avengers to train further along with Vision and War Machine under the guidance of Black Widow. As per the plot, Wanda develops close friendship with Hawkeye who also becomes her mentor. She also develops a romantic relationship with Vision along the course.

Wanda Maximoff becomes a more significant part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Infinity War. Vision asked Wanda to kill him in order to destroy the Mind Stone and preventing it from falling into the hands of Thanos. However, the Mad Titan recovered the stone by using Time Stone. She battled against him with her full might to avenge the death of her lover in Avengers: Endgame.

In order to cope up with the loss of her family, she took controlled the minds of the entire Westview town using her powers in web series WandaVision. The true origin of her powers are revealed in the Marvel web series. Wanda’s powers develop to an extent that she is able to maintain her influence over an entire town while she managed to resurrect an alternate Vision and birth twin brothers Tommy and Billy.

The nature of the powers of Scarlet Witch include Chaos Magic, teleportation, levitation, energy manipulation, reality warping and mental manipulation. Maximoff’s nemesis Agatha Harkness revealed the truth behind her powers as she had been born with magical powers which could have been further strengthened by the influence of Loki’s sceptor during HYDRA tests. It is also revealed that mythical sorceress Scarlet Witch embodies as Wanda Maximoff who is the prime source of her great powers.

Harkness mentions about the magical Book of the Damned, the Darkhold which Wanda begins to study at the end of the series after she had to sacrifice her dream of an ideal family. The Darkhold further takes over her mind and corrupts her soul as she gains greater powers. In the recent Marvel release Doctor Strange 2, Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch is seen to be a major character fallen to the dark side of mystical world as she fights against Doctor Strange and America Chavez. (*Spoiler Alert*) Wanda recognises herself as Scarlet Witch for the first time in the film.

Actor Elizabeth Olsen plays the role of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch as a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In an interview with Good Morning America, Olsen revealed that there are no plans for a Scarlet Witch films as of yet. She said, “There’s no plan and I’m serious. I’m not a good liar. I wish I had a plan and I’m not sure.”
