Dropping the first motion poster of the highly anticipated film Ponniyin Selvan starring Bollywood actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, the makers announced it will release in two instalments. The motion poster reads, “The Cholas are coming PS-1.”

Ponniyin Selvan Release Details

The story, which takes place in the ninth century, centres on Chola Prince Arulmozhi Varman, afterwards known as the legendary Chola emperor Raja Raja Chola. He is well known for restoring the Chola empire and securing its dominance in South East Asia and the Indian Ocean. He was the most powerful monarch of his time in South India.

Ponniyin Selvan: I, popularly known as PS-I, is a forthcoming epic period drama film in the Tamil language from India that was co-produced by Mani Ratnam and Allirajah Subaskaran under the name Lyca Productions, which also dropped the first motion poster of the film today. It was directed by Mani Ratnam. It is the first of two film adaptations of the 1955 book Ponniyin Selvan by Kalki Krishnamurthy. Ratnam co-wrote the script for the movie with Elango Kumaravel and B. Jeyamohan.

The movie is the first in a two-part series based on the venerable book by Kalki Krishnamurthy about the life of Raja Raja Chozhan I.

According to reports, the technical team includes a number of A-list talent, including AR Rahman for the music, Sreekar Prasad for the editing, Ravi Varman for the cinematography, Thotta Tharani for the production design, Jeyamohan for the dialogue, Eka Lakhani for the costumes and so on.

In addition to directing the Netflix anthology Navarasa with Jayendra Panchapakesan in 2021, Mani Ratnam's most recent film, Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, was released in 2018. The forthcoming movie from Mani Ratnam will be released on September 30, 2022.
