The much-awaited trailer of director Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan 2 was released on Wednesday. The magnum opus of Tamil cinema is bankrolled by Lyca Productions. Ponniyin Selvan 1, which was released in September 2022, was one of the highest-grossing films of the year. The audio launch and trailer release of the globally celebrated film happened in Chennai's Nehru Indoor Stadium. The event was graced by actor Kamal Hassan who launched the film's trailer.
Part 1 of the Ponniyin Selvan series ended on a cliffhanger, leaving fans who haven’t read the book wondering what happens to Arunmozhi Varman and Vanthiyadhevan. The movie Ponniyin Selvan is based on a 1995 novel of the same name, authored by Kalki Krishnamurthy. Like the first part, the film will be released in five languages including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada.

The 3-minute ">trailer for Ponniyin Selvan 2 gives a gist of the sequel’s plot. The trailer opens with the news of the alleged demise of Arunmozhi Varman reaching the Chola kingdom. While the entire kingdom believes that the Chola heir drowned to death in the sea, he and his friend Vanthiyathevan are saved by a mysterious woman, Oomai Rani, also played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
The Crown Prince, Adhitha Karikalan, objects to the atrocious decision of dividing their motherland into two, as suggested by the ministers. Nandhini, along with the Pandiyan secret forces, plots a devious plan to kill Aditha Karikalan. Meanwhile, Kundavai, who had met her brother Arunmozhi Varman at his hideout, is informed that the woman who saved him resembles Nandhini. She questions her father, Sundara Cholan, about this mystery woman. There is a lot of action, war, blood, and gore, and the trailer ends with a visual of Nandhini confronting Karikalan with a sword in her hand.
The trailer keeps us hooked to the screen for 3 minutes straight, completely mesmerised by Ravi Varman’s cinematography coupled with AR Rahman’s background score. Every single actor seems to have lived their respective roles, making it feel so real and authentic. The trailer for PS2 is more intense, action-packed, adventurous, and filled with an air of mystery, which will all be answered in the film.
Promising or breathtaking would be understatements as the trailer has increased the film's hype by exceeding our expectations. Ponniyin Selvan 2 Plot
The story of Ponniyin Selvan follows the ascent of Emperor Arulmozhi Varman, alias Raja Raja Cholan, to the throne in the midst of sinister plans to destroy the Chola dynasty. The first part of the film focused on establishing the characters and setting the stage for the plot. The second instalment will narrate how Raja Raja Cholan ascended the Chola throne.

The film stars Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi Sivakumar, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Trisha Krishnan in lead roles. Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sarathkumar, R. Parthiban, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, Lal, Ashwin Kakamanu, Rahman, and Shobita Dhulipala play significant characters.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 is scheduled to release in theatres on April 28, 2023.
