Talking about playing one of the lead roles in the film, Gandhi said that it is his first biographical film. "...given the fact that he was such an inspirational Indian leader; it's also a dream role and I can't wait to get started. I remember saying yes immediately after hearing the narration."

While, Patralekhaa in her social media post stated, "Honoured to take Savitribai Phule's legacy to the world as an actor along with @pratikg80 in #Phule."

Discussing her role, she said that she grew up in Shillong, Meghalaya. The state boasts of a matriarchal society and so "gender equality" is close to Patralekhaa's heart. She is playing the role of Savitribai, who joined hands with her husband and started the first indigenously-run school for girls in Pune in the year 1848.

"Mahatma Phule also championed widow remarriage and together they set up an orphanage to prevent infanticide. This is one film that will stay with me long after it is over," she said.

The film is produced by Raj Kishore Khaware, Pranay Chokshi, Saurabh Varma, Utpaal Acharya, Anuya Chauhan Kudecha and Ritesh Kudecha. It is scheduled to be released in 2023.
