Payal Kapadia is currently working on two more films set in Mumbai, which could form a trilogy alongside her successful debut feature, All We Imagine as Light. The filmmaker shared details about her new project, revealing that she has started writing the next movie in the series. Kapadia said in a conversation with Variety, "I started writing my next movie, and it’s also going to be a film in Bombay. It’s a bit early, but I’m thinking about doing two more films in Bombay and having this kind of trilogy." Although the trilogy concept is still in its early stages, the director's vision for the future of the series is clear.

All We Imagine as Light, despite being overlooked by India’s Oscar committee, has found success internationally, with its unique narrative style receiving widespread recognition. From winning the prestigious Grand Prize at Cannes to Best International Feature from the New York Film Critics Circle, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, the Chicago Film Critics Association, and the San Diego Film Critics Society.
It was also named the #1 Film of the Year by multiple leading publications, including The New York Times, Associated Press, Sight & Sound, and Film Comment.
In addition to its success on the film festival circuit, the film earned multiple other honours, including the Gotham Award for Best International Feature, the Grand Jury Prize at the Asian Pacific Screen Awards, Best Film at the Montclair Film Festival, and the Silver Hugo at the Chicago International Film Festival.
After its initial theatrical run, it is now available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar in India, with Hindi-language subtitles. Kapadia praised the role of Rana Daggubati’s distribution company, Spirit Media, in supporting independent cinema. "There are distributors who are willing to do other movies that are not like the big studio films," she noted.
