Streep, 75, and Short, 74, have reportedly taken their on-screen bond beyond the show, with reports sharing that their friendship gradually evolved into something deeper. According to an insider quoted by Page Six, "Meryl couldn’t help but fall for Martin. He is a gentleman; he keeps her laughing and is an all-around positive person. She loves being around him." Their relationship reportedly took both of them by surprise, as neither was actively looking for love

Speculation about Streep and Short’s relationship began in August 2024 when the two were seen holding hands at an event related to their show. Since then, they have been spotted together on multiple occasions, fuelling curiosity about their status.

Despite being in the public eye, the couple has kept their relationship private, enjoying their time together without the pressure of media attention.

Here’s What’s Next

Both Streep and Short have experienced personal losses in their lives, which has brought them closer. Streep separated from her husband, Don Gummer, after nearly 40 years of marriage. Their split was publicly confirmed in 2023, though they had been living apart long before that. The former couple has four children:, Henry, Mamie, Grace, and Louisa Jacobson.

Short, on the other hand, lost his wife, Nancy Dolman, to ovarian cancer in 2010 after 30 years of marriage. The couple had three children together: Katherine, Oliver, and Henry. Their shared experiences with loss have reportedly strengthened their bond, allowing them to support each other as they move forward in life.

The report claimed, "The couple has no intention of getting married. Meryl is still legally married to Don, but even if she were divorced, that’s just not something that she or Martin are interested in. They’re happy dating as boyfriend and girlfriend." The report also mentions that Streep and Short's children, along with their family and friends, fully support their relationship, stating, "They absolutely approve of their relationship and think they're adorable together."
