With the theatres reopening again and the new films have graced the big screens again. Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi premiered in theatres with much celebration and then received widespread appreciation from the audience and film critics alike.

The regional cinema also has big-budget films to offer such as the Telugu film Bheemla Nayak and Tamil film Valimai. The films have famous actors, Pawan Kalyan and Ajith Kumar. For people who would stay at home rather than go to the theatres, entertainment options on OTT platforms are plenty.

Five New Releases February Weekend Specials:

Love Hostel

This Sanya Malhotra and Vikrant Massey film released recently was announced by the makers on February 14. The film has honour killing at the heart of its plot. Vikrant and Sanya play the role of newly wed couple who are running away from their families in order to stay married. The family members of the Sanya Malhotra's character are making every attempt to end the union. They even hire a man named Dagar (played by Bobby Deol) to track down the couple and kill them. While hiding and running, the couple are directed towards an abandoned hostel where the couple spends their days in. The film has been produced by Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chilies Entertainment and Drishyam Films. The film is available to watch on Zee5.

Valimai

Released in theatres, this Ajith Kumar starrer is a cop drama. Ajith Kumar protagonist is a police officer and the plot of the film has been praised by the audience for its synchronised action sequence. Apart from the Ajith Kumar, the film also stars Huma Qureshi, Kartikeya, Yogi Babu, Pugazh and Sumithra.

Gangubai Kathiawadi

Alia Bhatt plays the role of a social activist and madam of a brothel in yesteryear's Kamathipura red light area in Mumbai. The film has been directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and praised by many on its first day. Kangana Ranaut who had dissed the lead actor for not being fit for the role she is playing in the film also came around and appreciated the film. The film is based on a story written by Hussain Zaidi's book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. It is about a real life person named Gangubai who worked for the rights of sex workers.

The Telugu remake of Malayalam film Ayyappanum Koshiyum recently released in theatres. The film stars Pawan Kalyan and Rana Daggubati in lead roles. Other cast members of the film are Prithviraj and Biju Menon. The film is about the clash between two men in regards to their community, culture and all things that makes them different from each other.

The Fame Game

After winning hearts on big screen for years, actor Madhuri Dixit made her debut on digital screens in February 2022 with her drama series The Fame Game. The film is about a famous actor named Anamika Anand, played by Dixit, who suffers consequences of being famous. After she disappears, police and her family members learn things about her they never knew. With Dixit, the film also stars Manav Kaul, Lakshvir Saran, Muskkaan Jaaferi, Sanjay Kapoor among others. As per Madhuri, the show tries to showcase “the other side of fame, and we are showing how it can be dangerous.” The series is available to watch on Netflix.
