Korean Money Heist To Thirty-Nine: Netflix To Release 25 Korean Shows In 2022

Netflix announced 25 new Korean shows in 2022 after the success of K-dramas Squid Game and Hellbound.

In a release, OTT streamer Netflix announced that it will launch 25 Korean shows in 2022. After the success of the K-Drama Squid Game, Netflix’s list will include Money Heist: Korean Joint Economic Area, Thirty-Nine and Seoul Vibe among others. With the increasing popularity of Korean content in pop culture, Squid Game became Netflix’s most viewed in 94 countries.

Netflix announced the addition of 25 Korean shows in 2022 on the streaming platform in its recent release after the success of Squid Games. K-pop and K-dramas have been acquiring the world’s attention as they become more popularised among the youth. The audience is demanding more Korean content with this increasing popularity.

Squid Game became the most viewed on Netflix in 94 countries while also being Netflix’s biggest show ever. The global viewing hours of Korean shows increased six times than 2019 as reported by Netflix. About 95 per cent of the viewership of Squid Game was from outside of Korea, it mentioned.

“As this fanbase increasingly includes viewers from all over the world, we are excited to continue collaborating with Korean storytellers to bring the K-wave to new heights.” Don Kang, VP, Content (Korea) mentioned in the Netflix release.

After the success of Squid Game, other Korean shows benefitted with the increased popularity of Korean content including Hellbound and The Silent Sea.

Netflix Korean Shows in 2022

The upcoming Korean shows will include shows like Money Heist: Korean Joint Economic Area which is an adaptation of popular Spanish series La Casa De Papel, female-led Thirty-Nine which revolves around the life of three female friends as they turn 40, action-thriller Seoul Vibe which is set in the backdrop of 1988 Olympic Games.

Korean shows in 2022 on Netflix will offer a variety of genres including romantic drama Forecasting Love and Weather, fantasy drama The Sound of Magic, dystopian drama Black Knight, zombie thriller All of Us Are Dead, legal drama Juvenile Justice, Remarriage and Desires, The Accidental Narco, Somebody and Jung E among many others.
