Asgardians got a woman ruler this Saturday at Marvel’s Comic-Con panel, as Natalie Portman was introduced as the first female Thor in the franchise’s upcoming film, Thor Love and Thunder. This will be the fourth film in the Thor series and is set to hit theaters on November 5, 2021. “Feels pretty good. I’ve always had a little hammer in me,” Portman said.
The film is also set to bring in some progressive characters by featuring Marvel’s first LGBTQ superhero, Valkyrie, played by Tessa Thompson. Tessa has been associated with franchise for two films now and has previously been seen as Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Endgame. According to her, Valkyrie will play an instrumental part in the upcoming film.
“As new king (of Asgard), she needs to find her queen. That will be the first order of business,” Thompson told fans during the panel.
If the reports are to be true, Portman's character Jane Foster would return as a female Thor, and naturally people — especially women — cannot keep calm.
Alongside Portman, Thompson as Valkyrie would take over as the King of Asgard, and she broke the news at Comic-Con that her character would be looking for a queen — making her potentially the first openly LGBTQ superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
On Sunday, Portman reacted to her new role on Instagram with a photo of her wielding Mjolnir.

"Remember this as the before picture for when I get jacked," Portman joked about getting ready to play her new superhero role.
"I've always had hammer envy," Portman joked, according to Variety.
Comic book readers would already know Jane Foster as The Mighty Thor. After Thor loses his powers to wield Mjolnir, Foster picks it up and becomes the Goddess of Thunder.
The women of Marvel had a blast at the Comic Con since more than two crucial women characters have been announced. Angelina Jolie is confirmed in the upcoming Ethereal, alongside Richard Madden, Salma Hayek and Kumail Nanjiani.“I’m so excited to be here! I think what it means to be a part of the MCU, what it means to be an Eternal, what it means to be in this family,” she told the crowd. “We’ve all read the script and we know what the task is and so we are going to work very, very hard.”

Marvel announced a host of other movie projects including the long-awaited Black Widow starring Scarlett Johansson, who would be reprising her role in a standalone film based on the character. The upcoming movie will be directed by Cate Shortland and written by Jac Schaeffer.
“I feel like a weight has been lifted,” she told Variety after the announcement, though she admitted she still couldn’t divulge much about the film. “We do about seven pages of dialogue this week so maybe (Black Widow) is a little different than most Marvel movies. There’s lots of talking. I get to talk more. I could tell you that.”
