Mouni Roy studied mass communication at Jamia Millia Islamia but left the course and travelled to Mumbai with the hopes of kicking off an acting career. She began her career in 2006 with the television series Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, which also starred actor turned politician Smriti Irani.

Roy starred in several series before breaking into acting in films. While she featured in a number of films, her role in the 2022 film Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva propelled her to new heights. Here’s a look at her notable appearances in film and television.

Mouni Roy Roles In TV Series And Films

Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi

Mouni Roy got her start in television with her role as Krishna Tulsi Virani in the hit soap opera Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. She played the role of the main character’s adopted daughter and starred alongside Smriti Irani.

Devon Ke Dev… Mahadev

Following Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Roy starred in several television series until her role in Devon Ke Dev… Mahadev led to her gaining wider attention. She starred opposite actor Mohit Raina in the series based on Lord Shiva.

Naagin

In 2015, Roy starred in the supernatural series Naagin, where she played the role of Shivanya, the mythological half-human and half-serpent creature that can take human form.

The series became popular and India and other nations as well.

Gold

Roy made her Bollywood debut in the 2018 period sports-drama film Gold. She starred opposite Akshay Kumar and played the role of Monobina Bas, the wife of Tapan Das, the man who won India its first gold medal in the Olympics.

Her performance was praised by critics and the commercial success became the first Indian film to have a theatrical release in South Arabia.

Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva

In Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva, Roy plays the role of the lead antagonist, Junoon. A motion poster for her character was published and it wrote, "In our world of Light, we present to you the face of Darkness - Here is the mysterious, Junoon."

Mouni spoke about being cast as the film's villain and said, "I am looking forward to it. What is more liberating for me is playing different characters that challenge me."

The film which was released on September 9, 2022, received positive reviews from critics and audiences.

Mouni Roy will make a guest appearance in the upcoming action thriller Ganapath starring Tiger Shroff, Kriti Sanon, and Amitabh Bachchan.

Roy will also star in filmmaker and screenwriter Sanjay Gupta's sports drama film and a web series based on Arnab Ray's book Sultan of Delhi: Ascension.
