Why Did Manoj Bajpayee's Mother Ask For Poison?

In a recent interview, Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpayee opened up about his conditioning and the family background he belongs to. After the release of his movie Joram, Bajpayee talked about how his character as a "voiceless" man reminded him of his family. He said in the interview that his father was a voiceless man. But he also added that his mother asked for a poison to kill herself. But why? Read on to learn more 

Why did Bajpayee's mother ask for poison?

In an interview, Manoj Bajpayee revealed that he took inspiration from his own family while playing his role in Joram. He said, "I have seen this in my own family. My father didn’t have a voice. We are six children, and if you ask any of my siblings, they will say the same thing. My mother was the alpha female. Even in her last days, she was so independent. She hated to be dependent on anyone. She was asking my sister to give her poison so that she could die because she hated the fact that she was dependent on her children. So, I am from that family. I am brought up with that conditioning.”

Bajpayee's mother Geeta Devi passed away in 2022 due to a certain illness. 

His views on box office collection

In another interview, he also talked about the movie Animal and its impact on the business of his movie. He said, "I’ve always spoken against the obsession with box office. I’ve always believed that it has ruined the culture of filmmaking in our country. Numbers being thrown at people’s faces isn’t the right thing to do." 

Furthermore, the Joram actor also spoke about how audiences are now obsessed with how much money the movie is making. He said, "In a conversation with them, they’ll suddenly quote the amount that a film has made. They feel that if a film has collected Rs 100 crore or above, it’s a very good film and that it qualifies for all kinds of honours in this country." 

Manoj Bajpayee's movie Joram was released on December 8, 2023. The movie is a thriller/action movie about a man trying to save his daughter from forces that want them dead.
