Kiara Advani who won hearts with her portrayal of Dimple Cheema in Shershaah last year will act alongside Varun Dhawan, Anil Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor in the upcoming comedy-drama Jug Jugg Jeeyo.

The upcoming Raj Mehta directorial has a large family reunion at the centre of the plot. The trailer, which was recently released by the filmmakers, promises the viewers an emotional roller coaster. It shows two couples, way apart in ages but from the same family, who are considering divorce. Finally a mainstream film will touch upon the taboo subject!

Kukku (Varun Dhawan) and Naina (Kiara Advani), an unhappy married couple, are contemplating divorce when they arrive in India for a family wedding, however, Kukoo discovers that his father (Anil Kapoor) is having an extramarital affair and is preparing to divorce his mother (Neetu Kapoor).

Naina appears to be an independent and strong NRI girl. The film is set to hit theatres on June 20, and it’s tough to gauge the character she’ll play only from a few seconds of video from the trailer. From Lust Stories to Good Newwz and Shershaah Advani has established herself as an actor who is here to stay. Before the release of the multi-starer here is a look back at the actor’s Bollywood journey.

Kiara Advani characters so far:

Kiara Advani made her acting debut in 2014 with the film Fugly, a multi-starrer that failed at the box office. Advani played a tomboy girl from Delhi with a strong personality. The audience, on the other hand, felt they did not get to see much of her in the film.

Advani has been in a number of multi- starrer films. Good Newwz, which touches upon issues of infertility and IVF acted alongside Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Diljit Dosanjh. The film is about two couples who embrace In Vitro Fertilisation.

She then appeared in Guilty, an OTT film starring Akansha Ranjan Kapoor and Gurfateh Singh Pirzada. Guilty is aided by a committed performance by Kiara Advani in the lead, despite the direction being a little dramatic and over the top in places.

However, it was her performance in the most contentious film of recent times, Kabir Singh that got a lot of attention from the viewers. It cannot be ignored that Advani’s character turned out to be one of the most unliked ones due to her meek and extremely submissive personality.

In 2020, she was again cast in another multi-starrer film, Laxmi 2020, which was a remake of the Tamil film Kanchana (2011) and starred Akshay Kumar, Ayesha Raza Mishra, Ashwini Kalsekar, and Sharad Kelkar. Advani portrayed Kumar’s wife.

After six years in the industry, she finally received her first solo film, Indoo Ki Jawani, in which she strives hard to make sense of her character’s unpredictability. Although the film did not perform well financially, Advani showed that she goes to great lengths to blend in with her characters, from Fugly’s Devi to Indoo KI Jawani’s Indoo.

Shershah, a biographical war film based on the life of Vikram Batra, who was killed in the Kargil War, was her lone film in 2021. Sidharth Malhotra played the lead role in the film, with Advani playing his love interest. Advani portrays a steadfast Sardarni who adores her man with all her heart. The love story served as a diversion from the serious matter at hand. Advani said that the character of Cheema inspired her and will always hold a special place in her heart. Expressing her gratitude, she said that through her, she got a deeper understanding of what it takes, the emotional journey of any partner of an officer who is serving the nation.

This year, Advani delivered another popular film, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, but critics praised only Kartik Aaryan and Tabu’s performances. Advani, once again, is given little to do in the film; she appears to be nothing like a Rajasthani.

Kiara Advani on Bollywood and depiction and its depiction of women:

In Bollywood films, unless it’s rare female-led films like Kahaani, Queen or Tanu Weds Manu, women actors are used as passive actors. The majority of these films are written with men in mind.

Advani in an interview said, “It’s rare for a female protagonist to pack a punch. That is something I still want to do. I’m in these movies, and the characters all have interesting backstories. But if I have to compare it to what your male protagonist does (in the film), it’s impossible.”
