Hridayam Hindi Remake

Johar made many social media users happy with his announcement but many expressed disappointment over the Bollywood filmmaker remaking Malayalam films instead of original ones. A social media user pointed out that Bollywood often remakes successful South Indian films.

Many also demanded appropriate casting from the filmmaker as he will be making the remake of the Malayalam film in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

Hridayam is a coming-of-age drama directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan. The film follows the life of a young man named Arun Neelakandan's journey from college times to fatherhood. Apart from Mohanlal, the film also has Kalyani Priyadarshan and Darshana Rajendran playing the main roles. The film post its release received several good reviews and the sound tracks of the film, Darshana and Onakka were especially admired.

The film recreated college campus memories and showcased campus romance. Mohanlal's character joins engineering college in Chennai and falls in love with a girl named Darshana (played by Darshana Rajendran). However, due to some misunderstanding, the male lead and his love interest are separated and he falls in love with another girl named Nithya. The classic love triangle came off as emotional and sensitive to the audience. The film was first released in theatres but the government soon closed the theatres due to COVID-19. It was again released on OTT platform and was available to watch. The pandemic significantly affected the predicted success of the film, box office and otherwise.

Hridayam is streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar.
