Kangana Ranaut Meryl Streep tweet causes Twitter meltdown: Actor Kangana Ranaut shared two stills from her upcoming films Thalaivi and Dhaakad today on social media. However, it wasn't Ranaut's looks from her upcoming films that made her tweet viral. 

In her tweet, Kangana Ranaut compared her acting capabilities to those of veteran Hollywood actor Meryl Streep. "I have raw talent like Meryl Streep for layered character depictions," she wrote, adding that she was also capable of performing skilled action like Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot.

In a follow-up tweet, Ranaut said that she is open to debate "if anyone can show me more range and brilliance of craft than me by any other actress on this planet I promise to give up my arrogance, until then I can surely afford the luxury of pride."

While Gal Gadot fan brigade has not given much attention to the tweet, fans of Streep, who has so far been nominated for Academy Awards 21 times, winning three of them, haven't taken this comparison lightly.

As always, not the one to sit down and let such tweets go unnoticed, the Twitterati has reacted to Ranaut's tweet with a flurry of tongue-in-cheek comments, memes and GIFs.

"Hope, Meryl Streep and Gadot will forgive us for this dishonor," wrote one Twitter user.

Who is Meryl Streep?

While Ranaut is known for her acting skills, for the past many months she has been courting controversy and making news for her opinions and social media posts. Twitter is not new to Ranaut making controversial remarks. So what made this particular tweet blow up? To understand that we need to know who is Meryl Streep.

Streep won her first Academy Award in the Best Supporting Actress category for her performance in the 1979 film Kramer vs. Kramer. She went on to win two Academy Awards in the Best Actress category for her work in Sophie's Choice (1983), and The Iron Lady (2012). Apart from being the most nominated actor for the Oscars, Streep is the most-nominated performer in the history of Golden Globes as well. She is also a recipient of honorary Cecil B DeMille Award and three Primetime Emmy Awards.

Streep was also nominated for a Tony award in the Best Featured Actress in a Play category, for her work in the 1976 play 27 Wagons Full of Cotton.
