Kangana Ranaut Derogatory Remarks Case: Actor Won't Appear Before Mumbai Police Today

On December 13, the Bombay High Court had asked Ranaut if she would appear in front of Mumbai Police for statement recording on December 22 and she had agreed to do so.

Kangana Ranaut Derogatory Remarks Case: Kangana Ranaut's advocate Rizwan Siddiquee has informed the police that the actor will not be to appear to record her statement today, as she is not in the city. The Queen actor was supposed to appear before the Mumbai Police on December 22, today, in relation to a First Information Report (FIR) registered against her at Khar police station for her social media remarks on the farmer's protest, which were labelled as derogatory towards the entire Sikh community.

The Maharashtra government, in the last court discussion on December 13, had said that no coercive action will be taken against the actor till January 25. On the same day, her advocate Siddiquee had confirmed that Ranaut will appear before the police to record her statement on December 22.

What is the case against Kangana Ranaut?

The case against Ranaut was filed by a 47-year-old Mumbai-based businessman Amarjeet Singh along with the leaders of the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). The FIR, filed on November 23, was in reference to the actor's Instagram post that allegedly hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community. The complainant also accused Ranaut of "intentionally and deliberately" comparing farmer's protest to the Khalistani movement.

The actor had posted an Instagram story on November 21 that read, "Khalistani terrorists may be arm twisting the government today...But let's not forget one woman...The only woman prime minister ne inn ko apni jooti ke neeche crush kiya tha (the only woman prime minister had crushed them under her shoes). No matter how much suffering she caused to this nation...she crushed them like mosquitoes at the cost of her own life...Lekin desh k tukde nahi hone diye (but did not let the nation divide)."

On the basis of this complaint against the post, Ranaut was charged with section 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious sentiment) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). On December 13, Ranaut had filed a petition in front of the Bombay High Court for the quashing of this FIR.

The actor recently started an outdoor shoot for the film Tiku Weds Sheru, which she is producing under the banner Manikarnika Films Production. The film stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Sheru and Avneet Kaur as Tiku. The first look of the film was unveiled in November, check it here.
