Kangana Ranaut Clarifies Rumours About Thalaivi OTT Release, Says It's ‘Fake Propaganda’

Thalaivi was scheduled to release theatrically on April 23. Now, due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in India, the release date has been postponed.

Thalaivi OTT release: Kangana Ranaut quashed the rumours that her upcoming biopic Thalaivi may be released on OTT platforms first.

Ranaut has clarified any such speculations claiming that the "movie mafia" is doing "fake propaganda" and people should just "ignore" them. Saying that the film will release theatrically first, the Queen actor took to her Instagram Stories on Tuesday and clarified, “Announcement – Thalaivi digital rights are with Amazon (Tamil) and Netflix (Hindi) none of them can individually stream the movie before theatres release."

Thalaivi, the biographical film about the life of former Tamil Nadu chief minister late J Jayalalithaa, was scheduled to release theatrically on April 23. Now, due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in India, the release date has been postponed.

Explaining that Thalaivi deserves a theatrical release, Ranaut mentioned that the makers are determined to release it first in theatres and then it can be available on OTT platforms. She further warned that strict action will be taken against any media publications spreading fake rumours or writing wrong information about the film.

Earlier, Ranaut took to Twitter to share pictures that showcased her transformation into the actor-turned-politician and how she perfected Jayalalithaa's look in the film. She had shared how she gained and lost 20 kgs for the role and tweeted, “One day to go for the trailer launch of #Thalaivi. Gaining 20 kgs and losing it all back within a span of few months wasn’t the only challenge that I faced while filming this Epic Biopic, wait is getting over just in few hours Jaya will be your forever (sic).” Read how Kangana Ranaut transformed into Thalaivi

Sharing the trailer last month, Ranaut wrote, “To Jaya Amma, on her birth anniversary. From changing the face of cinema to the fate of a state, Jaya Amma shaped the destinies of millions! Witness the story of the legend, Thalaivi, in cinemas on 23rd April 2021.”

The female cast of Thalaivi, as revealed thus far, includes actors Bhagyashree, Poorna aka Shamna Kasim, and veteran Madhoo.
