Formerly associated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Kamal Kant Batra contested the 2014 general election from Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur but later resigned from the party, citing dissatisfaction with its functioning and organisational structure. In a column for NDTV, she expressed her discontent with the AAP's performance at both state and national levels and lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts while urging him to fulfil his promises and prioritise support for martyrs' families.

Her son, Captain Vikram Batra, earned posthumous recognition with the Param Vir Chakra for his valour during the Kargil War. Known by various titles like the Tiger of Drass and the Lion of Kargil, Captain Batra's bravery set an exemplary standard for his comrades. The Bollywood movie Shershaah, featuring Kiara Advani and Sidharth Malhotra, portrayed his heroic story, focusing on his pivotal role in capturing Point 4875, where he earned the nickname Shershaah for his exceptional leadership.

During the mission, despite battling illness and exhaustion, Captain Batra displayed unwavering determination, leading his team to victory. He sacrificed his life to save a fellow officer, Lt. Naveen Anaberu, by exposing himself to enemy fire. His iconic words, "Yeh Dil Mange More...!" (This heart craves for more), uttered after a successful attack, ignited the spirit of an entire generation and resonated across the nation.

Retired army general Lt Gen Satish Dua reminisced about Captain Batra's inspiring leadership, emphasising the impact of his words on the morale of soldiers and the nation at large. Captain Batra's selfless sacrifice and indomitable courage continue to be revered as symbols of valour and patriotism.

As the nation mourns the loss of Kamal Kant Batra, her legacy as the mother of a national hero and her unwavering support for the armed forces will be remembered with deep respect and gratitude. Her contributions to the welfare of soldiers and their families serve as a testament to her enduring commitment to the nation's defence and security.
