The story started with Prabhu, the host of a television show called Real Or Reel. After he interviewed two women: Kanmani Ganguly and Khatija Begum, he fell in love with them. Their love was mutually reciprocated.

In the flashback, Rambo, who hailed from a village, believed his family to be cursed. Whoever married in his family would die. Rambo's father then decided to break the myth and married a local teacher named Minah Kaif, while his brothers and sister remained unmarried.

Overjoyed after the birth of his son, Rambo's father names them Ranjankudi Anbarasu Murugesa Boopathy Ohondhiran (Rambo). However, while announcing his son's birth, he accidentally slips from a tower and dies. His wife Minah suffers a stroke immediately after his death and becomes paralyzed. Rambo's uncles and aunt, and the whole village believe that the birth of Rambo has brought bad luck that his father tried so hard to fight.

Rambo grew up believing that he would introduce bad luck wherever he went. When his mother had a seizure in his presence, he ran away from the village for good, believing that his nearness to his mother made her ill.

With the film’s principal photography delayed due to the COVID-19 lockdown in India, in May 2020, the production house announced that filming would begin that August. However, in December 2020, the team officially kickstarted the film in Chennai beginning its principal photography from 14 December followed by Vijay Sethupathi's arrival in Hyderabad, as per sources.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu completed the film's first schedule within a month and then officially joined the film's sets from January 2021 in Chennai as a part of their second schedule. In February, Vignesh had announced that to wrap up the shooting of the second schedule.

During March 2021 at Chennai, the third schedule began. The filming was delayed due to the second wave of COVID-19. The shooting then reportedly resumed in Pondicherry in August 2021. A video from the shooting on the  internet had the lead actors recreating the song "Valai Osai” from Sathyaa (1988). According to reports, the actors also wore costumes similar to that song.
