K-pop Idol IU Opens Up About Self-loathing During Her Initial Years Of Stardom

K-Pop Idol IU: Korean pop star popularly known by her stage name IU, candidly spoke about the years she struggled with self-loathing, despite her massive success as a celebrity.

The K-pop idol appeared on the 100th episode of the tvN variety program as a guest, where she talked about not being accepting enough of herself during her younger years.

“When I turned 25 years old, that was the turning point in my life,” the soloist recalled.

The Celebrity singer referred to the chorus of her 2017 hit Palette and explained the reason she wrote the lyrics ‘I think I know a little bit now’. She said that she was finally able to accept her shortcomings and strengths.

The Korean singer also talked about the inspiration for her ballad titled Through the Night and explained that at that time she had a "hard time sleeping".

“When my friends and I stopped contacting each other because they went to sleep, I found it increasingly hard to support their falling asleep,” continued IU.

The 27-year-old pop star revealed that she began to use the ‘Sleep well’ sparingly.  “But I thought to myself that if it were someone I really loved, I would want them to sleep well, regardless of whether I was ,” the K-pop idol said.

During the show, IU talked about her younger brother who recently enlisted in the military. She revealed that her brother has kept her identity a secret his entire life from almost all of his acquaintances, except a few close friends.

The Korean singer also mentioned that she is a big fan of the show and added, “I also watched the BTS episode that recorded the highest ratings”.

IU made her comeback with her fifth album titled LILAC. The k-pop idol received a perfect all-kill with her latest album that dropped on March 25.

In a recent interview, she spoke about the idea behind her album and said, "I’ve mainly written calm songs that tell personal stories so far. I decided that that wasn’t the right fit for this album’s tone, so I didn’t hesitate to remove those”. She explained the title of the album which the singer disclosed, in the language of flowers means "memories of youth".
