Ever since the pandemic took over our lives, bringing it all to a still, we have been relying on web series on OTT platforms to keep ourselves entertained. Now that the world is back up on its feet again, with the hustle culture that we all collectively belong to, weekends are the only days when we have the time to binge-watch in the comfort of our homes.

With the plethora of options available panning across multiple OTT platforms, it can be a task in itself to choose what you want to watch. With limited time and weekends passing in the blink of an, we have come up with a list of 5 new Indian web series you can watch.

Modern Love: Mumbai

If you are looking for something hassle-free to watch, without previous seasons to catch up on, Modern love is a new series, streaming on Amazon Prime Video. This is a re-adaptation of a column in the popular New York Times, previously adapted into a series in English.

Modern love offers six unique stories of human connection, each episode different from the other exploring love in all its forms including romantic, platonic, parental, sexual, familial, marital, and self-love. Modern love is directed by Shonali Bose, Hansal Mehta, Vishal Bhardwaj, Alankrita Shrivastava, Dhruv Sehgal, and Nupur Asthana. It has a whole of 6 episodes- Raat Rani, Baai, Mumbai Dragon, My beautiful wrinkles, I Love Thane, and Cutting Chai, starring Fathima Sana Shaikh, Ranveer Brar and Pratik Gandhi, Meiyang Chang, Yeo Yann Yann, Naseeruddin Shah, and Wamiqa Gabbi, Sarika and Danesh Razvi, Masaba Gupta and Rithwik Bhowmick, and Arshad Warsi with Chitraganda Sen respectively.

Panchayat

The second season of this comedy-drama series is back on Netflix. If you are watching something more elaborate than just one season to watch over the weekend, two seasons of this series are available for you to watch on the OTT platform Netflix. Directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra became an instant hit when it initially premiered in 2020 with its debut season.

This series features a stellar talented star cast including Jitendra Kumar and Neena Gupta among others in pivotal roles and has a unique plotline. Panchayat follows the life of Abhishek, played by Jitendra Kumar, an engineering graduate, whose circumstances force him to take up a job as a Panchayat secretary in a remote village, Phulera, Uttar Pradesh.

Guilty Minds

Available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, Guilty Minds is a legal drama, the first of its kind in the Indian web series scene. Guilty Minds is a 10-episode series on Amazon Prime and brings refreshing realism to courtroom dramas. Directed by Shefali Bhushan, it follows two young and ambitious attorneys who view their occupation through absolutely opposite lenses.

It features Shriya Pilgaonkar as Kashaf Quaze, Vandana Kathpalia (Sugandha Garg), Deepak Rana (Varun Mitra), L N Khanna (Kulbhushan Kharbanda), brother-sister duo Shubhrat and Shubhangi (Pranay Pachauri and Namrata Sheth), Diksha Juneja, Satish Kaushik, and Deepak Kalra. This series doesn't shy away from exploring various important issues from #MeToo To Illegal Sex Determination and makes for a great binge to keep you glued to the screens this weekend.

Gullak

A Sony Liv web series that is based on nostalgia, this makes the binge list just for that reason. This series follows the lives of a middle-class family in the setback of a quaint town in North India. The show is about the everyday lives of the Mishra family–Santosh and Shanti Mishra, and their children Anand and Aman Mishra. This series is produced by The Viral Fever and created by Shreyansh Pandey.

It features Jameel Khan, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Vaibhav Raj Gupta, and Harsh Mayer in pivotal roles. The wholesome feeling this series brings, while exploring the dynamics of a middle-class family with relatable anecdotes makes it a must-watch. Three seasons of this series are available to watch on SonyLiv.

Mai

The show revolves around a grieving mother, Sheel Chaudhary played by Sakshi Tanwar, who is trying to decode the sudden death of her specially-abled daughter, Supriya (Wamiqa Gabbi) while struggling to cope with the emotional stress of losing her daughter. The show is created by Atul Mongia, who also co-directed the show alongside Anshai Lal.

The crime-thriller series is available to stream on Netflix. Mai features cast members including Raima Sen, Vivek Mushran, and Seema Pahwa, amongst others. The plot of the show follows Sheel as she goes down deep into a rabbit hole of violence and power, becoming involved in white-collar crime and dirty politics, which then alters the course of her life and her worldview.
