Bollywood’s Ice Facial Obsession: A Dermatologist Reveals the Truth
'Don't do it..,' Dermatologist Jaishree Sharad joins Shaili Chopra, founder of SheThePeople and Gytree, to discuss the reality behind this viral facing icing skincare trend.
In recent times, the practice of submerging one's face in ice water, commonly known as the ice water facial, has gained popularity, especially with Bollywood stars like Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif, Kriti Sanon, and Tamannaah Bhatia endorsing it. While it may seem like a quick-fix beauty hack, board-certified cosmetic dermatologist Jaishree Sharad, who has 24 years of experience, debunked the trend, stating, "I've heard of very big stars talk about how they use ice on the face. But you know, it's very, very temporary, and don't do it every day. It will dehydrate your skin."

Facial Icing, A Skincare Must or a Mistake? Expert Weighs In
Sharad recently joined Shaili Chopra, founder of SheThePeople and Gytree, on the talk show Rule Breaker to discuss the reality behind this viral skincare trend. While many swear by facial icing for its supposed firming and de-puffing benefits, she clarified its limitations. "There's nothing wrong… Don't do it repetitively because then it's not good for your skin. It dehydrates your skin then," she explained.
She also emphasised that while facial icing might feel refreshing, its benefits are extremely short-lived. "Putting your face in ice water is only temporary. It's very temporarily good. And this is a huge myth." Her advice? While occasional icing won’t harm the skin, overuse can strip moisture, leading to dryness and potential long-term damage.
Several actors have expressed how incorporating ice-water facials into their skincare routines has become a priority for them. Take a look.

What Is Ice Water Face Dip?
It is also referred to as an ice water facial or ice water face wash, is a skincare technique where individuals submerge their face in icy-cold water for a brief duration. This method is commonly employed as a beauty regimen aimed at enhancing the overall appearance and well-being of the skin. Typically, this process involves filling a basin or bowl with chilled water and incorporating ice cubes to attain a lower temperature.
If you're still curious about the ice facial routine and why celebrities are so obsessed with it, here's everything you need to know.
Why Are Actors So Obsessed With It?
Using ice water as a face wash leads to the contraction of capillaries due to its low temperature. This contraction aids in reducing puffiness, redness, and swelling, resulting in a revitalised and refreshed appearance of the skin. Another advantage associated with ice water facials is the tightening of skin pores. Ice water has the ability to enhance the skin's absorption capacity, making it a beneficial addition to your skincare regimen. Additionally, the cold sensation of ice water stimulates blood circulation and elevates the oxygen levels in the skin.
