Double XL Intends To Speak On Stereotype Beauty Standards, Says Huma Qureshi

Only few actors in Bollywood spoke about patriarchy and how it nurtures stereotypical beauty standards. These standards are promoted and encouraged through films and everything a person watches on screen. Recently, Huma Qureshi opened up about patriarchy and beauty standards on the backdrop of her upcoming film Double XL. She blames patriarchal social conditioning for stereotyping beauty, especially in women.

Qureshi will be featured in the film alongside Sonakshi Sinha Zaheer Iqbal, and Bollywood debutant cricketer Shikhar Dhawan. The film traces adventures of two plus-sized women in a society prejudiced about women's weight. The film is directed by Satramm Ramani an written by Mudassar Aziz. Double XL will release in theaters on November 4.

According to a report, Qureshi said, “It's all about feeling confident and believing that one can look glamorous if one feels glamorous. Patriarchy and society condition us into believing that a girl who weighs a certain weight is not beautiful or glamorous.”

Further added, "It's high time we do away with these notions. Also, I felt that since I was from an industry where glamour is an essential aspect of the profession, the message coming from me might help other girls who obsess over their weight, feel differently about themselves."

On work front, Qureshi will essay the titular role of food critic and chef Tarla Dalal in a biopic on her. Her next Netflix original is Monica O My Darling alongside Rajkummar Rao, directed by Vasan Bala. Huma Qureshi will also be seen in Dinesh Vijan's production, Pooja Meri Jaan.
