Ever since news buzzed of a Friends reunion release in 2021, fans of the classic 90s sitcom haven't been able to keep calm. Though reruns of the 10-season series never get boring and the original cast keeps the nostalgia alive with regular offline reunions, viewers have been awaiting - with hopes beyond hopes - of a real-time, 21st century-set Friends return.
Though not as an entire series, the show sure is making a comeback! Platformed as a special on HBO Max, Friends will bring back television favourites Joey, Chandler, Phoebe, Monica, Ross and Rachel to our screens in their now-grown, mature avatars with the original cast - Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston, respectively - intact.
As per a post by the show's official Instagram page, the HBO special has completed the major chunk of production, which means we're just that much closer to the Friends reunion release. See more behind-the-scenes photos, which are breaking the internet.

Friends Reunion Release Date, Streaming Platform, And More
Though the Friends reunion release date hasn't yet been given official confirmation for audiences, fans can expect it to arrive on screens super soon. Last year, when HBO Max announced in February that a Friends reunion would begin filming in March 2020, the release was pegged for May that same year (to coincide with the streaming platform's launch).
For the reunion's release in 2021, Perry hinted that the time brackets would be similar. Do the math, if you must.

Production has been set up at the original Friends soundstage at Stage 24, Warner Bros. Studio, Burbank. Greg Grande, who was the designer for the sitcom during the 90s, had shared a snap from set last year of still underway, but recognisable structures of Monica and Rachel's purple-themed apartment.
Original producers of the sitcom - Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman and David Crane - are named as co-executive producers of the HBO Max special, which will be directed by Ben Winston. All six titular cast members will also co-produce.
The special will stream on HBO Max when it releases. The subscription-based OTT service, currently, is only available in the United States. However, last year in September, WarnerMedia Entertainment heads hinted at a possible India launch for the platform sometime in the future.
The catch in the entire Friends reunion is that the special will - as per the cast and crew - will more or less be unscripted. The actors will apparently come as they are. In an ">interview with host Graham Norton early April this year, Schwimmer said talking about the reunion, "I’ll be myself. I’ll be David. There’s nothing is scripted, we’re not in character. We’re all ourselves, the real people, although there is one section of it that I don’t want to give away, but we all read something."
Confused? Well, we'll just have to wait - a bit more - to see what our favourite sitcom characters will be upto.
