Veteran filmmaker and Dadasaheb Phalke Awardee K Vishwanath passed away at a private hospital on Thursday in Hyderabad at the age of 92.

Veteran filmmaker and Dadasaheb Phalke Awardee K Vishwanath passed away on Thursday in Hyderabad at the age of 92. Viswanath had been unwell for quite some time and was suffering from age-related health issues. He passed away at a private hospital around midnight on Thursday.

Vishwanath, also known as "Kalatapasvi," is a well-known name not only in the Telugu film industry but also in the Tamil and Hindi film industries.

He became the 48th recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest recognition in Indian cinema, in 2016. He was also awarded the Padma Shri in 1992, five National Awards, 10 Filmfare Awards, including a lifetime achievement award, and 20 Nandi Awards by the Andhra Pradesh government.

Following the demise of the veteran filmmaker, celebrities and public figures took to Twitter to pay their tributes.

"Vishwanath Garu’s death has caused deep grief. He is the mirror of Telugu culture and Indian arts. The films under his direction have brought unparalleled respect to the Telugu film industry. "He will forever remain in the hearts of the Telugu people as an artist," wrote Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Actor Kamal Hassan described himself as an ardent fan and tweeted, "He fully understood the transience of life and the immortality of art. His art will be celebrated beyond his lifetime and reign. Long live his art."

"At the funeral of K Vishwanath, very sad and with a heavy hear. None like him, what a void he has left," actor Radikaa Sarathkumar tweeted from K. Vishwanath's funeral. "Today Telugu cinema gets international thanks to RRR movie but the base was put by K. Vishwanath, who gave telugu cinema, culture, and music, its dignity," she added.

"Shocked beyond words! wrote Telugu actor Chiranjeevi Konidela. "Shri K Vishwanath’s loss is an irreplaceable void to Indian and Telugu cinema and to me personally. Man of numerous iconic, timeless films! The legend will live on!" added the Telugu superstar.

Director Ram Gopal Varma tweeted, "His very own distinctive visual style and music, and even more distinctive characterizations set in a culture and tradition that he deeply respects, are what make K Vishwanath a true auteur."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, "Saddened by the passing away of Shri K Viswanath Garu. He was a stalwart of the cinema world, distinguishing himself as a creative and multifaceted director. His films covered various genres and enthralled audiences for decades. Condolences to his family and admirers."

"K. Vishwanath Ji, you taught me so much. Being on set with you during Easwar was like being in a temple. RIP my guru," wrote Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor.

"Truly saddened to hear about the passing of K Vishwanath Garu," Telugu actor Venkatesh Daggubati tweeted. This is not just a loss to the Telugu industry, but to our country! My condolences to his near and dear ones. May his soul rest in peace," he added.

Malayalam actor Mammootty tweeted that he was privileged to have been directed by Vishwanath in the film Swathikiranam. "My thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones," he added.

Music Director A.R. Rahman wrote, "Anjali. Tradition, warmth, heart, music, dance, and love. Your movies filled my childhood with humaneness and wonder! RIP Vishwanath Ji!
