Ellen Pompeo To Return As Meredith Grey For The Season 19 Of Grey's Anatomy

The show, Grey's Anatomy about the interns and the supervisors on a medical journey by the American Broadcasting Company(ABC) will be returning with its 19th season. Reportedly, among the original casts from the first season, three actors will be returning for season 19.

The show will premiere its newest season on February 24, 2022.

Ellen Pompeo to return as Meredith Grey - the news has been officially confirmed by the Instagram handle of the show through its story. Pompeo, the co-executive producer will be the executive producer for the next season of the longest-running medical drama in television's history.

The show started in the year 2005 with Ellen Pompeo, Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl, Justin Chambers, TR Knight, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr, Isiah Washington, Patrick Dempsey as the main star cast. Among them, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr will join the new season as well.

Krista Vernoff who took up the show after Shonda Rhimes who served as the creator left the show, will continue overseeing the show.

The 17th season of Grey's Anatomy which featured the condition during the pandemic and dedicated the show to Healthline workers and professionals showed Meredith Grey herself as dying from the infection. The show has remained the top-rated show of ABC, for many years. Season 19 of the show which will start premiering on February 24, is set in a fictional post-pandemic world.

Pompeo had been advocating to bring the show to an end and has been quite vocal about it for the last few years. Her contract was up at the end of Season 17 of the show, and later on, it was renewed for Season 18 as a one year deal. The was speculations and cliffhanging about her casting in Season 19.

On January 10, the show's official Twitter handle announced the season 18 date through its tweet and added, "It's a beautiful day to receive some big news. #GreysAnatomy will be back on Feb 24 and for a whole new season!" They further added, "Congrats on Season 19".
