Downton Abbey is set in a fictional English country house in the Yorkshire countryside in the early part of the 20th Century and depicts the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their domestic staff. The initial film followed a royal visit to the Crawley family from King George V and Queen Mary of England.

The period drama film emerged to be a huge performer as it went on to earn more than $194 million from a budget estimated at $13-20 million.

The main cast of the film returned from the hit BBC television series, which went off-air in 2015. The show won three Golden Globe Awards and 15 Primetime Emmys during its six-season run.
