Netflix India has released the trailer of its true-crime series Delhi Crime Season 2. The first season, which premiered on Netflix in 2020, fictionalised the 2012 Delhi gang-rape case. Shefali Shah played Vartika Chaturvedi, the Deputy Commissioner of Police of the capital’s South District who races against time to catch the rapists.
Richie Mehta, who directed the first International Emmy-winning season, serves as the creator this time round. The new set of episodes have been directed by Tanuj Chopra and written by Mayank Tewari, Shubhra Swarup, Vidit Tripathi, Ensia Mirza, Sanyuktha Chawla Shaikh and Virat Basoya.
Delhi Crime Season 2 Trailer
The trailer sess marking the return of DCP Vartika Chaturvedi aka ‘Madam Sir’ and her trusted team. This time around, a series of ghastly murders in Delhi is keeping them on their toes. They are tasked to investigate a “kaccha-baniyan” gang, comprising criminals who commit robberies and murders by oiling their bodies. With escalating public fear and the media demanding answers, Madam Sir is forced to make some tough choices.
“What are we doing as a police force, that the crimes just don’t go down,” says Chaturvedi. “We don’t have the luxury of thinking about it. There’s always another crime to solve,” replies the Inspector.
The season 2 cast includes Rasika Dugal, Rajesh Tailang, Adil Hussain, Anurag Arora, Aakash Dahiya, Sidharth Bhardwaj, Gopal Dutt, Danish Husain and Yashaswini Dayama.
The show won the International Emmy Award for Best Drama Series in 2020. Shah’s portrayal of a cop in the web series Delhi Crime was acclaimed by critics; it also marked her powerful comeback in the industry. In an interview with SheThePeople, Shah revealed that the role of Vartika was a “most exhausting and enriching experience.” “I realised that there is a certain sense of balance as another woman takes up her fight.”
Delhi Crime 2 will release on 26 August on Netflix.
Shah was last seen in the Netflix dark-comedy Darlings, co-starring Alia Bhatt, Roshan Mathew, and Vijay Varma. Apart from Delhi Crime 2, she also has Doctor G in the pipeline with Ayushmann Khurrana and Rakul Preet Singh.
