After much speculation, the makers announced in 2021 that Regé-Jean Page, who won our hearts as Simon, will not be returning for the second season. The news was obviously heartbreaking for the fans as Page came off as one of those dreamy male characters seen in period dramas who draw young women towards them. Maybe he was the new Darcy, maybe he was the new Laurie.

Simon was a sensitive, loyal, principled and most importantly very loving husband to Daphne (played by Phoebe Dynevor). As soon as the news of his absence in the second season broke out, many fans of the show almost stopped looking forward to the new season. The one they had been dying to watch. The new season was supposed to develop Simon and Daphne's relationship and give more heart-melting moments to pause and repeat. Sadly, the makers of the show decided to put the spotlight on other members of the Bridgerton family in the new season.

Bridgerton Season 1 Recap: (Spoiler alert)

The show is about the powerful Bridgerton family living in old-time England. The first season showed the eldest daughter of the family set foot in the marriage market as a debutante. Her character's eagerness to get married dominates most of the first season. The viewers are shown how the women in those times were left with the only thing to focus on. She meets many suitors but falls in love with the dashing Duke - Simon. The only problem is that he cannot marry because of a promise he made to himself.

Simon eventually changes his heart and sees how much he loves Daphne, the two eventually get married. The passionate marriage is interrupted with a conflict of principles. In the end, the fans get the much-desired happy ending. The show's narrator is an anonymous woman named Lady Whistledown who finds out about everybody's uncomfortable secret and unveils them in pamphlets distributed all over the city.

The teaser also shows Lady Whistledown back in action, dominating the town ballrooms with her accurate newsletters.

The opinions seemed to start changing after the first look of the season 2 was released by Netflix. Simone Ashley's Kate Sharma, famous for her character Olivia in Sex Education, was seen giving a tough time to Anthony Bridgerton. Barely a minute long clip showed Anthony Bridgerton get demolished by Sharma's acute observation and disdain for his sense of entitlement.

As per the official synopsis released by the makers, the new characters of the show Kate Sharma and her sister Edwina Sharma have come from India. Edwina starts courting Anthony Bridgerton but her sister Kate sees what Anthony's intentions are and tries to stop the union. And this is how Kate and Anthony are pitted against each other only to give birth to one of the most adored narratives, headstrong girl melts indifferent man's heart and the two live happily ever after. We don't know if they will end up being something but the chemistry seen in glimpses sure shows promise.

From dissing the makers for ousting Rege-Jean Page to praising them for including Indian character Kate Sharma, the internet seems to change it's mind about the upcoming season. Will the second season be a chart-breaking success like the first one? Only the first episode will answer this question.
