Bridgerton Prequel Book To Focus On Queen Charlotte's Rise? What We Know

The publication of the Bridgerton prequel book will be timed according to the release of the upcoming eight-episode spin-off series

Bridgerton prequel book is in works as author Julia Quinn and Bridgerton series executive producer Shonda Rhimes have recently join hands for a collaborative. The novel will focus on the character of Queen Charlotte and will align with the upcoming Bridgerton spin-off series.

The announcement for the upcoming Bridgerton prequel book was made on July 7. The prequel novel is expected to be based on Bridgerton spin-off series which was confirmed last year. It is supposed to chronicle the rise of Queen Charlotte- a character which wasn't part of the original Bridgerton books, but gained immense following when it was introduced in the series.

The second season of Bridgerton aired on March 25, 2022 on Netflix and amassed huge popularity from the audience setting the highest viewing record on its opening weekend. With the idea of creating a Bridgerton-verse, Shonda Rhimes will serve as an executive producer for the Queen Charlotte series. Actor India Amarteifio will be seen as the younger version of Charlotte on the show along with Golda Rosheuvel, who will reprise her role as older Queen Charlotte in the prequel.

Speaking about this new development, Rhimes said in a statement, "Queen Charlotte has been such a moving character to write and now having the opportunity to work with Julia to adapt this story into a book is such an exciting opportunity." Author Julia Quinn further added, "Taking Bridgerton from book to screen was fascinating for me to watch, and it’s such an exciting challenge for me to take it in the other direction, this time crafting Shonda’s brilliant vision into a novel. I’m especially thrilled to have the opportunity to write about Queen Charlotte, who was not in the original novels."

Avon Books, an imprint of the William Morrow Group at HarperCollins, has acquired the rights to the Bridgerton prequel book in North America. Lyssa Keusch, editor at Avon Books, also remarked over working on the character of the Queen, "Queen Charlotte is a relatively understated yet fascinating historical figure, and this new, rich, witty and compelling novel is perfect for the millions of fans of the Shondaland/Netflix series Bridgerton who are clamoring for more of this incomparable character."

Meanwhile, the third season of Bridgerton is also in works and will be based on the love story of characters Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.
