Is BLACKPINK Jennie's New Song Copied From Bollywood’s Rocky Aur Rani?

BLACKPINK’s Jennie is set to release her new song, Like Jennie, this Friday, March 6. A 9-second teaser of the song was shared on social media on Tuesday, March 4 exciting her fans worldwide. However, while many praised the teaser, some Indian listeners noticed something familiar, the beats and melody sounded similar to the theme of Alia Bhatt’s character, Rani, from Karan Johar’s 2023 film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The song was composed by Indian music director, composer, singer, and record producer Pritam.

The teaser features thumping beats with repeated chants of “Jennie.” But listeners couldn’t help but compare it to Rani’s theme. And soon, a fan war erupted on X, with supporters of both actors fiercely defending their favorite artists.

Indian music lovers and Bhatt’s fans accused Jennie’s team of lifting the tune, calling it unoriginal.  On the other hand, BLACKPINK fans dismissed the plagiarism claims, arguing that similarities in beats don’t necessarily mean copying.
