Rakshabandhan would be the second movie of Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar as a duo after Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. And it would be the third movie of their collaboration as Akshay Kumar worked as the co-producer for the movie Durgamati starring Bhumi Pednekar in the lead role.

Rakshabandhan would be the second collaboration of Akshay Kumar and director Aanand Rai after the film Atrangi Re. Atrangi Re also stars Sara Ali Khan and Rajinikant's son-in-law Dhanush.

Kumar took to Twitter to share the news and shared a picture of the trio - Aanand L Rai, Bhumi Pednekar and Akshay Kumar himself. Kumar wrote, "When you are happy, it shows. And indeed we are... To have @bhumipednekar onboard #RakshaBandhan." Bhumi Pednekar also shared the news on her social media handles shortly after Kumar.

She wrote, "A very special film & a very special reunion. Am supremely excited to be collaborating again with two of my favourite creative powerhouses & humans. Am full of gratitude to be a part of this special, heart-touching story #RakshaBandhan (sic)."

Rakshabandhan is described as a special tale that celebrates "relationships in the most beautiful way". The film Rakshabandan is written by the National Award-winning screenwriter Himanshu Sharma. Sharma has been a long-time collaborator with Aanand Rai. Sharma is also known for writing the Shahrukh Khan starter film Zero, Raanjhanaa and the Tanu Weds Manu franchise.

Bhumi Pednekar's latest films were Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare and Durgamati. Durgamati is a remake of the South Indian movie Bhaagamathie starring Anushka Shetty. Rakshabandhan is presented by Akshay's sister, Alka Bhatia and Aanand L Rai. The film is produced by Colour Yellow Production in collaboration with Cape of Good Films.
