West Bengal actor Shruti Das has approached the police alleging that she has been abused online for two years over her dusky complexion. Das is currently seen playing the lead role of Noa Bose Mukherjee in the Bengali television series Desher Mati.

She claimed to have been receiving online hate comments regarding her dusky skin tone since 2019, after getting a break in Bengali serials. In doing this, 23-year-old Das has reportedly become the first person from the Tollywood industry to formally lodge a complaint against such a form of abuse, the Times of India reported.
She went on to address that the comments are getting increasingly vicious as the series started to get more popular. Das, who originally hails from Katwa in Purba Bardhaman district of West Bengal, hasn't provided her local address in Kolkata or her contact number, according to police sources. The details that she has given, police claimed, are also incomplete. The investigating team has thus reached out to her over e-mail and social media asking her to provide more details on the basis on which they can initiate an FIR (First Information Report).

Das gained popularity in West Bengal after playing the lead role in the supernatural drama Trinayani. Currently, in Desher Mati, she plays the role of a teacher and the protagonist's wife. "The trolls accuse me of manipulating my partner, who is a director, to get this role. They claim it would otherwise have been impossible for a dusky person like me to get such a chance," the Bengali television actor told TOI. On Thursday, she tagged Kolkata Police in a Facebook post, citing the abuse. "I was told to submit my complaint to the cyber police station via an email," she said, adding, "I have done that and am waiting for action."
