Indian Idol 12 Fame Anjali Gaikwad Accused Of Scamming People, Singer Reacts

It is scary how much of our life and reputation is dependent on social media and it is even more chilling and panic-inducing to think that people can hack into our personal account and misuse it for their gain. Something very similar to this apparently happened to the Indian Idol 12 fame and singer Anjali Gaikwad.

In a screengrab which went viral, a person alleged that he was being asked for money through a business registration trick by Gaikwad. The person, who goes by the Twitter handle, Pakchikpak Raja Babu tweeted this on April 21. He captioned the screenshot of the conversation and wrote, "lol Indian Idol contestant trying to trick people on Instagram from a verified account."

Under this tweet, many people had expressed shock while others rightly guessed that the singer's account might have been hacked. Reportedly, Gaikwad's account was not only hacked but a total amount of Rs 70,000 was demanded from her to return the account.

In an interview with the Hindustan Times, Gaikwad reacted to the screenshot and the news of her scamming people online rounds on social media. She said, "My Instagram account has been hacked. It's been 20-21 days. I don't know how he did it. The hacker also called me and asked for a ransom of Rs 70,000. He said, 'Paisa do account lelo (Give me, take the account back). Aisa mujhe call aaya (I got a call like this). A few days later I even reported it to the cybercrime. But there is no update on it yet."

She also said that she received a lot of messages online. She added that the hacker had asked for money from many people and they thought that it was her. "I am clearing it with everyone individually. Some people are calling me fraud while a few are understanding that it's been hacked." She also stated that the case is with the cyber crime branch and they are trying to get the account deleted. Post which, she will create a new account.
