Fans are abuzz with surprise after reports said popular television actor Anita Hassanandani quit acting after becoming a mother. Known for her role on Naagin, the 40-year-old in February this year welcomed her first child, Aaravv, with husband Rohit Reddy.

An interview she gave recently hinted that Hassanandani may be giving up acting for good. "I had decided that whenever I would have a child, I would leave the industry and let go of my work. I always wanted to focus on being a mother," she told Times of India

Hassanandani has a broad range of work in the film and television industry. While her small-screen credits largely include Hindi serials, she has acted extensively in Telugu, Tamil and Kannada films. One of the most popular household names for the television-watching audience, Hassanandani last appearance was on Naagin 5 as Vishakha Khanna.

On whether the pandemic prompted her to take a step back from acting, she said "it's not about the pandemic, I would have either way left the industry, pandemic or no pandemic. I want to be at home with my kid... Honestly work is the last thing on my mind right now. I really don’t know when I will get back."

The actor's fans and followers on social media have been taken by surprise at news of her leaving the industry. Many commented on her posts, enquiring if she really does plan on exiting acting. Others have supported her in her choices, saying they are hers to make.

Hassanandani married Reddy in 2013 and seven years later, announced her pregnancy via Instagram. She has been candid in tracking her pregnancy and motherhood journey on social media, recently sharing a post on the importance of breastfeeding. "I am going to feed Aaravv breast milk for as long as I can and for six months, for sure," she said in a video.

Producer Ekta Kapoor, one of Hassanandani's closest pals, June 10 shared a throwback video of the duo. "To good days of trekking," she wrote.

The two, among other television celebrities, have expressed solidarity for Pearl V Puri in the ongoing case of alleged minor rape against him. Puri is currently in police custody in Mumbai. All you need to know about the case.
