Sunita Kapoor and Anil Kapoor met through their mutual friends. Sunita Kapoor was given the actor's phone number by a friend to play a prank on him. Sunita's voice charmed Anil Kapoor the moment he heard it. After that, they met at a party, and he noticed something special in her. They became pals when they began talking. They used to talk about another girl he admired, but she later disappeared, leaving the actor distraught. Sunita Kapoor and he grew closer after this occurrence. Sunita Kapoor and Anil Kapoor dated for 11 years before deciding to marry.

The two stuck together during the time when Sunita had a wonderful career as a model while Anil Kapoor was struggling to get substantial roles in films. She would pay for him when he didn't have money to pay for cabs, so he wouldn't have to take an hour-long bus ride to meet her.

He proposed to Sunita Kapoor for marriage when he signed his first big film, Meri Jung, on May 17, 1984. On May 19, 1984, he proposed to her, and they married in a modest ceremony. The couple has been married for 40 years now and has been together for over 50 years.
