83 Trailer Out: Ranveer Singh Stars As Kapil Dev in Film On India's World Cup Victory

It is all set to premiere at Saudi Arabia's Red Sea International Film Festival on December 15 this year. It is scheduled to release in theatres on December 24.

An ode to former Indian team captain Kapil Dev and the team's historic victory in the world cup match of 1983, the film by Kabir Khan throws a glimpse as the historical moment and Dev in the trailer of the film 83. It is the much-awaited film of the year, as its dates kept pushing because of the COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions.

As the trailer starts with wide shots of the team playing and disappointing the fans. The pretext is set. No one could believe that India could lift the trophy. Then it cuts to a close up of Ranveer Singh who plays Kapil Dev's character quite convincingly. From mannerism to looks, the film seems to have captured each player of the World Cup-winning Indian team players to its truest roots. The trailer also focuses on the rivalry between the West Indies team and that of India's.

The film also stars Jiiva, Tahir Raj Bhavan, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Pankaj Tripathi, Deepika Padukone, amongst others. It is all set to premiere at Saudi Arabia's Red Sea International Film Festival on December 15 this year. It is scheduled to release in theatres on December 24.

In the film, Deepika Padukone will be playing the lead woman's role as Romi Dev.

In an interview, singer and actor Harrdy Sandhi who plays the role of Madan Lal in the film said in an interview to ANI, "I'm very glad the film is finally close to releasing. We had been waiting for a long time, do saal nikal gaye (two years have gone by). I had a word with Ranveer the other day and he has seen the film and he told me that it came out amazing."

The film is presented by Reliance Entertainment and Phantom Films and is also a part of Kabir Khan Films Production.

The film was shot at the Lord's Stadium in London for five days. The director Khan shared in a interview with Mumbai Mirror that they brought out the real world cup for Ranveer during the shoot and he broke down while Khan shouted cut, for the scene.

Ranveer Singh's last release in theatre was Sooryavanshi which was the third part of Rohit Shetty's cop universe. The actor played his role as Simba and was seen along side Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar.
