The lead actor, Scarlet Johansson is accompanied by Florence Pugh who will essay the role of Yelena Belova who was given the same training as Johansson's character, Natasha Ramanoff. The film has been directed by Cate Shortland and produced by the Marvel Studio in collaboration with Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

The character of Natasha Ramanoff has been a pivotal one in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Marvel Comics with several villains' end credited to her. With numerous romantic and platonic relationships, Natasha Ramanoff became the ultimate super hero with a dark past. The Black Widow is set to stream on digital platforms is said to explore that angle.

Here's Everything To Know About Black Widow Backstory:

  1. Born in the Soviet Union as Natalia Alianovna Ramanova, the Black Widow was orphaned as a child. She was soon taken in by the Soviet Union Intelligence who trained her. The Intelligence agency later became the KGB.
  2. After her triumphs and losses during the Second World War, Natasha was recruited in the Black Widow Program. She was trained as a assassin in a facility called the Red Room. As per the Comics, she was given a Super Human serum which slowed down her ageing process and gave her peak human strength and stamina.
  3. Her powers are not to be confused with the ones that Captain America or Bucky had. Ramanoff just functions on Super Human strength and does not age in a regular manner. The Marvel Comics had also mentioned that Ramanoff fell in love with a man named Nikolai with whom she had a child but it didn't survive after birth.
  4. Some glimpses from the Marvel Cinematic Universe also hint at a past when Ramanoff was a ballerina dancer. According to the Comics, she might have never been one and the memory of her dancing in ballerina shoes were implanted in her head in the Red Room.
  5. In the now released film, Ramanoff will be seen fighting the Red Guardian aka Alexei Shostakov, the Soviet Union's Captain America version. Not many know that Shostakov and Ramanoff were not just romantically involved but were also married.
  6. After working for the Russian regime, she fought against the Avengers and the United States of America. She later became a turncoat when she joined S.H.I.E.L.D and its chief Nick Fury in their missions. Marvel movie fans would know how she became one with the Avengers later and sacrificed her life to save humanity.
  7. As an assassin, Natasha Ramanoff is highly skilled. She knows martial arts, aikido, karate, judo, savate, boxing and she also a gymnast.
  8. She is also equipped with gadgets. For example the black suit she wears all the time has two bracelets on each wrist that shoot the "widow's bite". It is a electrostatic bolt with high-frequency. It can power up to 30,000 volts and defeat superhuman enemies. Her belt has discs with over four pounds of TNT.
  9. The Black Widow is also multilingual. She knows Russian, English, Chinese, German, French and she might also know Hindi ( as seen in the first Avenger movie ).
  10. Before joining the Avengers team, Ramanoff was working for Nick Fury in defeating the S.H.I.E.L.D enemies such as Hydra.
  11. The Black Widow film will deal with the past of the Super Hero which is filled with personal battles. That is what assigns depth to Natasha Ramanoff's character as a super hero, she is constantly haunted by the past and tries to compensate for her wrongdoings.
  12. Florence Pugh's character in the film, Yelena Belova, did not start on good terms with Ramanoff. Belova was trained after Natasha in the same Red Room. Belova's association with the Hydra pits the two Black Widows against each other in the Marvel Comics.
  13. Another thing that makes Ramanoff's character stand out is the relationship she shares with some of the Avengers. Clint Barton for example. The close bond between the two started with a romantic one and then ended with one of the strongest friendships shared by anyone among Avengers.
  14. Barton aka Hawkeye made it possible for Ramanoff to leave the side of the KGB and work against the evil, as per the comics.
  15. At first, Ramanoff had influenced Barton to work with her in defeating Tony Stark aka Iron Man but the two faced defeat and that is when Barton helped Ramanoff change her mind and subsequently change sides.
  16. It is also believed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that Natasha Ramanoff sometimes took individual paid assignments while she was with the Avengers. She gave her earning towards correcting her past mistakes.
