In Andhra Pradesh, people from Golla Mamidada village in East Godavari set up a COVID-19 care centre with 30 beds with oxygen cylinders for each bed. It was inaugurated by Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) N Suryanarayana Reddy and district collector D Muralidhar Reddy.

For treatment, villagers from Golla Mamidada would have to travel to the town Kakinada, which is about 18 kilometres away. Local journalist Sabbela Sivanarayana Reddy lead the charge and the villagers contributed 50 lakh rupees for the COVID-19 care centre and COVID-19 treatment for villagers.
The ‘Rural Health Centre’ was temporarily converted into the “Golla Mamidada COVID Care Centre”.
After seeing the care centre organised by the villagers, the local MLA Suryanarayana Reddy began coordinating efforts to get medical help. The medical help includes doctors, testing kits, testing staff, and medicines from the state government.
During the devastating second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been several cases of people coming together to voluntarily set up COVID-19 care centres.
COVID-19 Care Centres Set Up By Volunteers
In Rajasthan, pharmacist Lalit Kiri set up a COVID-19 care centre with the help of hundreds of people. Within 24-hours, a centre was set up in the Barmer district with the help of plumbers, electricians, landscapers, transporters, and volunteers.
The makeshift centre contains 10 oxygen beds and 15 regular beds and is fully air-conditioned and furnished.
Residents of Silani village from the Jhajjar district in Haryana set up a COVID-19 care centre in a school in order to provide immediate treatment for patients. Natives of other villages are also coming to Silani for treatment.
15 beds were provided by the Jhajjar Gurukul, and Medical Officer Dr Pawan Yadav provided the facility with four oxygen concentrators.
Till now, 32 COVID-19 positive patients were treated.
